In our perpetually negative culture, there is a desperate need for encouragement. As Christians, who are connected directly with the God of Love, we have the unique ability to revive encouragement as a means of building love and trust with our family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers! For today’s spiritual workout, choose someone you can actively encourage. It may be a member of your family, a friend, or an acquaintance. Here are some tips:
- Think through how you can show encouragement. It may be through a letter, an act, or a conversation.
- Make sure that your encouragement is focused on the person and not on surface level observances. (e.g. – ‘nice shirt’ v. ‘I like how your style reflects your personality.’)
- Look for ways to highlight a person’s unique gifts and talents, even if they may not notice them.
- Don’t forget to say thanks! “Thank you” is a great step towards a life of encouragement.
Workout levels –
Apostle – Either write an encouraging letter to someone or spend 15 minutes in a conversation with someone focused completely on encouraging them
Disciple – Think through 3 specific compliments that you can pay to someone today.
New Believer – Spend today saying ‘thank you’. Try to say thank you to everyone you can today.
